THE ANCHORAGE DEMENTIA DAY CENTRE
The Anchorage dementia day centre opened in its new premises at 20-22 Lagoon Drive, Panmure, in January 2024. Operated by registered charity The Selwyn Foundation under contract to Te Whatu Ora, it provides secure day care for older people with mild to moderate dementia.
The centre operates Monday – Friday, 9.00am – 3.00pm (closed on public holidays).
ACTIVITIES TAILORED TO INDIVIDUAL NEEDS
The centre offers a bright, warm and comfortable setting for clients, with a dedicated, sheltered area for outdoor activities and ample parking for family/whānau. Our team of qualified Diversional Therapist and Activity caregivers provide a wide range of social, cognitive and physical activities that are tailored for older adults living with dementia. These include reminiscing sessions, music and art therapy, gentle exercise, minibus outings and gardening. The programme is flexible and takes clients’ abilities into consideration, adapting to reflect the individual needs of those attending on that particular day.
Meals include morning tea and a cooked lunch.
Staff work in tandem with other community-based services to enable clients to live at home in their local community for as long as possible. Recognising that our clients may need further support over time, we work with our service partners and the person’s family/whānau to support their transition to an appropriate care setting.
ACCESSING THE SERVICE
The day service is available to older people diagnosed with dementia living in the community and who are referred by Te Whatu Ora’s Needs Assessment and Service Coordination service (NASC). The information gathered during the NASC assessment is used in conjunction with input from the person’s family/whānau to develop an individual care plan.
CLIENTS CAN BE REFERRED BY:
• The Needs Assessment and Service Coordination service (NASC) for Auckland and Waitemata
• Dementia Auckland
• Te Whatu Ora Community Mental Health Services
• Eldernet
• Disability Resource Team (DRT) or Disability Support Link (DSL)

THE SELWYN FOUNDATION
The Anchorage is operated by The Selwyn Foundation, an independent, faith-based New Zealand registered charity providing services to older people and their families. The Foundation has been leading the way in improving the quality of life of seniors since 1954. As pioneers of the retirement village model and of residential aged care in this country, we are uniquely experienced in providing care, independent retirement living and community outreach services for older adults.
Our Vision is Oranga Mātua | Oranga Tangata, Respectful Ageing for all, within communities that thrive. As a result of the ageing of New Zealand's population and the growing numbers of seniors who are vulnerable or in need, our work is more important than ever. With our Social Impact and Mission strategy as our foremost objective, the Foundation is focused on enabling support and outreach where there is hardship amongst seniors who live in the wider community – whether that be loneliness and social isolation, material/financial/emotional- or housing-related.
