Welcome to Chatswood Retirement Village. In late 2014 we opened our new Hospital wing, new kitchen, laundry, lounge and Retirement Village facilities. All of which are built with exceptional quality and design. We also offer rest home level care in the existing building onsite.

Our village manager, Russell Walters, is supported by a skilled and experienced senior management team. Russell comes from a strong background of managing residential care facilities throughout New Zealand.

Residents are encouraged to maintain independence, creativity and individuality at Chatswood which is expressed through their personalized surroundings and personal choice. We believe that each resident is a unique individual who is part of a family and community. Age is part of the life continuum.

Residents from all parts of the facility enjoy regular outings in the Chatswood Van which you may have seen out and about, especially with the warmer weather becoming more frequent. Make sure to give us a wave and say hello when you see us around!

We are very excited about the new changes here at Chatswood and encourage you to come and have a look around our facility located in Opawa, Christchurch.

Registered Nurse 80 Yes Jocelyn is our full time Clinical Manager who has a great team of Registered Nurses work alongside her. We always have Registered Nurses on site.
Healthcare Assistants/Caregivers Yes We pride ourselves on having a great team of caregivers. We are lucky enough to have several Philippine caregivers awaiting their New Zealand Nursing Registration, so we are very lucky to have their extra skills.
Physiotherapist Yes We have a access to a Physio who is able to come to Chatswood whenever they are needed.
Occupational Therapist Negotiable Please speak with us further if you want to know more about occupational therapy.
Social Worker (on site) No All residents have access to a service co-ordinator.
Diversional Therapist 35 Yes Sue is our fully qualified Diversional Therapist who works Monday - Friday. We have a great range of activities which is run through all parts of our facility. Make sure to check the calenders around the facility for what activities are on.
Activities Co-ordinator 16 Yes Marilyn works alongside Sue on a Wednesday & Thursday. They make a great team who are always coming up with great new activities for residents to enjoy. If you have a suggestion of an activity you would like to do make sure to let Sue and Marilyn know.
Hairdresser 6 Yes We have a lovely hairdresser who visits twice a week and by special arrangement.
Podiatrist Yes The local podiatrist visits every 6 to 8 weeks and as required.
Dietitian Negotiable We have access to a Dietitian who reviews special diets and provides rotational menus to keep all meals healthy, nutritious and delicious.
Accredited Visitors Yes We have a house Doctor who visit twice a week to provide exceptional continuity of care.

Respite Yes We have a dedicated bed for respite and carer support so families can book ahead of time when they need a holiday or quite often, for earthquake repairs. Alot of the residents often come back for Day Care to join in with activities or entertainment.
Carer Support Yes We have a bed available for Carer Support or Short Stay which can be booked in advance. Please get in touch if you would like to make a booking.
Subsidised Yes We do not charge any extra making bookings in advance. Please note that some residents may be entitled to a subsidy through the DHB to stay at Chatswood.
Private Paying Yes We also accept residents, both short and long term, who wish to pay privately.
Booking can be made in advance Yes We can take advance bookings so that your carer can go on holiday, take a break or if they just need some relief, knowing that you are looked after and in safe surroundings.

May Bring Own Furniture Yes We love to see residents personalities shine through their rooms and possessions. Please talk to us about what furniture may suit your room and appropriate for any care that is being provided.
Single Rooms Yes All of our rooms are generous in size. We encourage residents to make their rooms their own by decorating how they wish. We are happy for residents to also bring their own furniture as long as it allows staff the room to provide excellent level of care.
Rooms suitable for a couple Yes We do have some rooms available that are suited for couples. Please get in touch if you wish to know more information about these as they are very sought after and not always available.

Whānau Room Yes Can be made available when needed. We are happy to be able to offer a quiet space for your family.
Residents Committee No We do not have a committee, although we do have regular residents meetings that allow you to bring up any queries or concerns. We love feedback of how you are enjoying life here at Chatswood.

Newsletter Yes We have a quarterly newsletter and happy to email this to families or post it. We also love residents contributions to the newsletter and acknowledging events and activities happening in and around the facility.
Policy for management of challenging behaviour Yes We have a great reputation for successfully managing challenging behavior. If you would like to know more about how we are able to help you or your family live a balanced lifestyle please speak with us.
Confused Residents Yes We do have some residents with confusion but managed safely within our environment which is one of the criteria for admission.
Smoking Permitted Yes Although smoking is permitted it is not encouraged. We have a covered outside area available for smokers. We expect smokers to discard of any waste appropriately using the supplied sand bins.

Special Features
Our current owners purchased Chatswood in June 2010 and since then have taken Chatswood through major refurbishments and completion of the new Retirement Village livings Studios and Apartments; and a Hospital wing. We also built a new kitchen and lounge in the new facility which is located next to the original Villa.

We are known for our warm friendly, homelike environment along with the provision of quality care by great staff. If you would like to know more about how you will fit in here at Chatswood please don't hesitate to give Russell a call or drop in and say hello.

What's included in your fees and what's not We make sure that this information is available to you both prior to admission and on admission.
Staffing qualifications and details All nursing staff are required to do the ACE training programme while being employed. We have completely reviewed our staff to ensure we only have staff of a high standard who wish to be in this special industry. We have employed Enrolled Nurses to become part of our Senior team and this will cover 7 days a week with senior staff. We now have a Registered Nurse on in the afternoons which is fantastic cover for us.
Details about meals Four week rotational menu with individual needs and special diets catered for.
Associated Complexes We are not a corporate facility, or one with lots of different shareholders. We are owned by two very experienced people who know the industry well and are associated with both the building and development of facilities to a very high standard.
