Other services
Whitby Lakes has both apartments and villas, together with an extensive Lifestyle Centre. They are spacious and beautifully appointed - almost all with views of the Whitby hills. Many of the apartments feature cleverly designed conservatories that can either be opened to the sun or shut to create a sheltered space.
While the village is fully sold down, we do get resales from time to time - so it's worth putting your name on the waitlist if you're interested. There are two and three bedroom designs feature spacious open plan living, access to a sheltered deck or courtyard, heat pumps, garaging and storage.
The Lifestyle Centre is the heart of village life at Whitby Lakes. This purpose-built facility houses a heated swimming pool and spa, gym, café and lounge bar, and a library with computer facilities. Enjoy a game of petanque or indoor bowls, challenge a friend to table tennis or pool, or host a barbecue on the lakefront deck. We run a full calendar of events and activities - driven by the interests and needs of our residents.
Whitby Lakes prides itself on being a friendly village with our residents at the heart of what we do. For more information, please make an enquiry.

Testimonials
Peter and Lynn Davies are new kids on the block - as new immigrants to NZ from Zimbabwe- through South Africa and the UK. They chose Whitby Lakes - not because it was a retirement village but because it offered the ideal lifestyle close to their daughter. "We saw Whitby Lakes and decided it was the perfect location," says Peter, "right next door to the doctors and the shops, and close to our daughter's house. We considered a retirement village at a relatively young age because our children are grown up and we were rattling around in our previous house. We'd seen people get very old and then not be able to move. They'd reach a point of no return where it was too traumatic for them to move." Having liked the location, the couple met one of the owners, Sandy Foster. "A good bloke - we really liked him," says Peter. "He's a straight up and down guy and I though, 'I could trust this fellow'. The element of trust is important." So the concept was good, location good, they liked the owners and how the village felt. "We wanted to move here if we could have a three bedroom villa with two full bathrooms, and that's what we've got!" "When you retire it doesn't mean you don't have family and friends to stay," says Lynn. And so their nomadic days are over - though they do still like to travel. "And living here is perfect," says Lynn, "we can just go away and somebody else will keep an eye on everything for us." |

NOTE: The Retirement Villages Act 2003 (The Act) is designed to provide improved protection for people who ‘buy’ into a retirement village. If you intend to ‘purchase’ you must get independent legal advice before signing your occupation right agreement as required under The Act. Some Retirement Village type facilities are not required to register under The Act so different legal requirements apply. Please make sure you investigate fully.
In some villages there may be some Retirement Village units that have multiple uses e.g. a Serviced Apartment may also be used as a Residential Care Suite. The same unit may therefore show in several places on Eldernet.
