Testimonials
After 30 years living in and around Lower Hutt, Muriel Mulliner searched high and low for affordable retirement village living in her local area. What she found was that her best retirement option was 83 kilometres away in downtown Masterton. “There were a couple of issues when I first started looking at the retirement villages near where I lived in Lower Hutt. First were the prices I’d have to pay. Second there were waiting lists which weren’t very convenient for me,” says Muriel. After deciding to look further afield, Muriel discovered Wairarapa Village in the heart of downtown Masterton. Now four happy months after moving in, it would be fair to say that so far this warm and welcoming village has ticked all the boxes. Muriel chose one of the village’s serviced apartments to call home. “My serviced apartment has plenty of room for the things I need and it’s very comfortable. I also have my meals taken care of which I like. Cooking meals for just myself had become somewhat of a chore, but now I get my breakfast delivered each morning and I go to the dining room for my lunch and dinner,” she says. “The location of Wairarapa Village is very convenient to the town. Plus the village van does a shopping trip for residents every Monday and Thursday.” Even though Muriel is happy in her new home in Masterton, she still catches up with her friends back in Lower Hutt. In fact, she regularly takes the train back down south and meets up for lunch and a good natter! Putting the affordable price and great location aside, Muriel is very happy with the move she has made. “The atmosphere is friendly and the staff are all kind and helpful”. There are plenty of activities in which to participate and she enjoys the beautifully landscaped grounds. “I’ve come into this serviced apartment and now I feel completely settled. It’s a great feeling.” |

NOTE: The Retirement Villages Act 2003 (The Act) is designed to provide improved protection for people who ‘buy’ into a retirement village. If you intend to ‘purchase’ you must get independent legal advice before signing your occupation right agreement as required under The Act. Some Retirement Village type facilities are not required to register under The Act so different legal requirements apply. Please make sure you investigate fully.
In some villages there may be some Retirement Village units that have multiple uses e.g. a Serviced Apartment may also be used as a Residential Care Suite. The same unit may therefore show in several places on Eldernet.
