Testimonials
Hi I'm Alan. On the 18th June 2009 Angela and I changed our lifestyle and took up residence at "The Poynton". We were the first to arrive, and may I hasten to add this step was taken with some slight apprehension. This is indeed a huge step to take in life and does take courage. You may ask, why would we do this? Well for many reasons. Both my parents continued their life at home in the suburbs, just waiting to see what happened. Each of them believing they were fiercely independent. Then as they both slowly declined in their ability to look after themselves the situation developed where by brother and I (family) had to put them into a Rest Home which they absolutely hated. We then sold their home and took over all their responsibilities. Do you call that being independent? Further reasons for our change of lifestyle include:- No more maintenance on the property, no more council rates, no more water charges, no more building insurance, no more concern over security (we have 24 hour coverage including a security man onsite all night.) One of the most frequently questions I am asked is "why at your age (70) when you are so fit and healthy, would you choose to live at "The Poynton"? My reply to this is simple. This is a lifestyle village, I am fiercely independent, I am taking responsibility for myself in my latter years and I am choosing where I want to be, not my children choosing for me. I want to be able to take advantage of the many wonderful facilities available here, what with the heated swimming pool, spa pool, indoor bowls, table tennis, gymnasium, darts, bingo, petanque, restaurant, bar (happy hour), village free bus, annual free health check, 24hr medical aid at the touch of a button. On site hairdresser, tai chi, computer group, art group, singing group, undercover secure car park, not to mention the new friends and circle of support I am building up and enjoying. These are just a few of the privileges should we choose to experience, living at "The Poynton". Should I choose privacy that is no problem, should I feel like company then I go to the communal lounge and share a free coffee or cup of tea and a chat with like minded residents. I also have much more time to pursue outside interests e.g. Bowling Club etc. Our Manager Craig Peploe and his staff are all so dedicated, kind, caring, helpful and make sure any concerns we have are dealt with. I now have the enjoyment of safety, security and peace of mind. I wouldn't change this for anything. Living at "The Poynton" is the nearest thing you can get to stress free living. Come on take the plunge, focus on the positives and enjoy living in 5 star accommodation. Remember, I live in a "Lifestyle Village" not an institution. Ask anybody who lives here, they all say "I wish I had done this years ago". We would love to talk to you. Alan Nicholson |

NOTE: The Retirement Villages Act 2003 (The Act) is designed to provide improved protection for people who ‘buy’ into a retirement village. If you intend to ‘purchase’ you must get independent legal advice before signing your occupation right agreement as required under The Act. Some Retirement Village type facilities are not required to register under The Act so different legal requirements apply. Please make sure you investigate fully.
In some villages there may be some Retirement Village units that have multiple uses e.g. a Serviced Apartment may also be used as a Residential Care Suite. The same unit may therefore show in several places on Eldernet.
