Testimonials
My husband and I are in our mid 70's and in July 2011 after 12 months of sickness we made the decision to move into a Lifestyle Village. It only took us 4 visits with family to put our deposit on a beautiful brand new Villa of 2 bedrooms and study (or a single bedroom) at Summerset in the Orchard in Ada Street, Hastings It was not finished at the time neither had we sold our home on 'Trade Me' - our home for 40 years. After six weeks on the market it sold. At the beginning of November 2011 we moved into Summerset. It has been the best decision we have made in our later years. It is unbelievable how friendly everyone is and there is so much or as little for you to do as you please. We have BBQ's, happy hours, sit & be fit, card making, wine tours with lunch, mystery bus tours, residents morning teas, bowls, pool and lots of other activities. Our new centre is going up fast and it is very exciting watching it's progress. We cant wait as there will be other activities we will be able to do. I know the cafe will be very popular. We are very happy to be living our late years in such a fantastic environment and we would not hesitate to recommend this lifestyle to anyone who wishes to have fun and enjoyment. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ One of the main reasons why we chose to move to Summerset in the Orchard, Hastings, was due to us having a motor home, we were tending to be away from home more than not. We noticed an advertisement in the local newspaper advertising the new complex going up in Ada Street, so went along to enquire all about it. The first question we asked was' will there be room for our motorhome', certainly says salesman Dave, as work was still in progress it was still quite difficult to imagine what it would look like. Dave says ' have you been over to Napier & seen their one' 'no' we replied, Dave says if you're out n about call in, he was still working in both places at the time. The next time we went to Napier we did call in, and as soon as we walked into the Main building we were blown away, Dave had said before that Hastings was going to be as good if not better, so we signed up there and then, paid our deposit which was refundable if we chose not to continue further down the track. We chose a villa and because it was still work in progress were able to select colour scheme etc. It did take a while for our home to sell but in the end we got there. In between times we would take a wonder down & look around, just checking!!!!. After a period of time when our house was not selling we decided to change villa which was still the same plan and cheaper than the original so we could allow the difference in our own sale. We have now been here 3years and whilst we are away in the motorhome more than at home it is still nice to come back now n again. The reception we get from other residents is 'have you been away' 'are you here for long' 'when are you away again' and when we say 'we're off again in a day or two' they laugh and say 'good on you'. There is always something going on whether it be outings, functions on site, fitness, the choice is yours if you wish to join in or not. We are still waiting for our Recreation Centre but building is going on and it's looking really good, it is not too far away ye ha. June & Noel Hansen Villa 3 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We had been retired about a year when we decided to sell up in Auckland and settle in Summerset in the Orchard. Both the move to the Hawkes Bay and the move to Summerset have more than met all of our expectations. The Summerset culture is great and we would suggest that making the move while you are young and fit enough to cope with an upheaval is a big advantage. We are here for the long haul now. Ken and Judy Dyer ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1 year on being in my new Townhouse, what excitment to watch the progress and joy when you settle in. Have no regrets and find life very busy with outings, companionship, friends and every aspect of ones life well looked after. Lots of choices, fun and company go to make a happy place Marie Harris |

NOTE: The Retirement Villages Act 2003 (The Act) is designed to provide improved protection for people who ‘buy’ into a retirement village. If you intend to ‘purchase’ you must get independent legal advice before signing your occupation right agreement as required under The Act. Some Retirement Village type facilities are not required to register under The Act so different legal requirements apply. Please make sure you investigate fully.
In some villages there may be some Retirement Village units that have multiple uses e.g. a Serviced Apartment may also be used as a Residential Care Suite. The same unit may therefore show in several places on Eldernet.
