Occupation Right Agreement |
This exciting 48-hectare Lifestyle Village, at 70 Kimberley Rd, Levin is being developed on the leafy grounds of what was the Kimberley Hospital, that closed its doors in 2001.
“The scale of this lifestyle development is very significant for a community like the Horowhenua,” developer Wayne Bishop says.
“With our aging population and the Road of National Significance connecting Levin more closely to Wellington, we are very excited about what the future holds for our Village.”
He points out Speldhurst offers wider lifestyle appeal than a typical retirement complex.
“It is a retirement village but it’s set in a rural lifestyle-type environment with community facilities.
The hub of the Village is the brand new community centre known as 'The George' which is home to several facilities including: a heated indoor swimming pool, spa pool, fitness room, social room and kitchen, billiards room, hobby room, library, outdoor BBQ and courtyard area, social lounge with state of the art coffee machine. There is also facilities for a fully functional restaurant/cafe which will hopefully soon be up-and-running.
Other facilities available on the grounds include: a community hall (currently housing indoor bowls, badminton, table tennis and darts), a men's shed (workshop full of tools and equipment for those who like to tinker), a croquet club with lawn, a chapel (dating back to WWII times that is being refurbished) and secure lock up facilities.
On the agenda to come will be: a brand new bowling green, a revamped giant bird aviary and there will be 'The Cottage' that will be converted into a "one-stop-health-shop" with various health care providers and other services available, e.g. hair dressing, podiatrist, chiropractor, nail technician etc.
Ground has just been broken on the 100th house site and the Village is growing at a rapid pace. Interest has been from all over the country which exceeded the first ideas of local interest only.
There is a show home available for viewing Monday - Friday 10am - 4pm or weekends by appointment.
There are various different house styles available ranging from 1 bedroom apartments with designated car park at 69sqm through to stand-alone, 3 bedroom, double garage homes of up to 185sqm (depending on at what stage of the build you choose a home you can choose from various options for different areas of your home from room size to brick colour to kitchen cabinetry!)
The houses come in different finish options to cater to all tastes and budgets and all options can be 'mixed and matched' to suit your own personal preferences.
Pricing for our homes are available on request so for any further information please don't hesitate to contact us or simply pop in for a look in person!

Testimonials
WHY CHOOSE THIS VILLAGE TO LIVE AT? Here are some comments why people have chosen this Village as their choice of lifestyle at this time of their lives………. The mature trees are awe-inspiring upon entry to Speldhurst Lifestyle Village. Initially we didn't believe we could live without boundary fences but the thoughtful layout without walls or fences soon became appealing with a sense of spaciousness. We have found the staff very accommodating to our personal needs. As the property is being purchased early enough we are able to choose our own colour scheme which makes it very exciting. The country environment is very relaxing but it is still only a few minutes to Levin and the necessary amenities that are required by mature residents which is very important. I have resided in Dannevirke all my life. After schooling I completed my Registered Nurse training at the Dannevirke Public Hospital and worked there until its closure. Since that time I have worked in the Aged Care Sector. It is now my “Golden Years” and time for change. Speldhurst - the country location, surrounding views, mature trees, expansive grounds and layout of the new homes presently for sale, had instant appeal. Wayne and Debra have both been most accommodating and professional when meeting with them discussing options and making decisions. When the proposed Community Centre to be known as ‘The George’ is functional my needs for companionship, social interaction and healthy living options will be met. WHY NOT become a resident and live life to the Max? I’m looking forward to the future ahead of me! Speldurst Country Estate provides a special and unique opportunity for us to continue our desire of enjoying a lifestyle property with a rural aspect. The extensive amenities and full activities on offer going forward, further enhances and amplifies our decision to be part of this outstanding estate. We are extremely proud to be associated and part of this amazing development. Downsizing to a retirement community has been on our radar for quite a while but this is such a major life decision that we had been putting it off. We have had a look at some of the options available and were not enthused about any of them. Then we became aware that something was happening at the old Kimberley Hospital site. We met with the developer and were very excited about the plans for the development. Over a period of time we have developed a relationship of trust with Wayne and Debra which has grown from the many meetings we have had. The point of difference for us is the spacing of the houses, with carefully considered placement of each home facilitating maximum privacy to every resident. The site itself with its mature trees was a major draw-card for us. The trees are beautiful with the homes placed around them. Our grandchildren asked us 'will we still be able to play cricket' and we are able to reassure them there will be plenty of green-spaces where they will be able to continue to do so when they visit. When we look at the whole picture of what Speldhurst will be it has changed our perspective of making this move from something we were not looking forward to into an exciting move into the next phase of our lives. We can’t wait! |

NOTE: The Retirement Villages Act 2003 (The Act) is designed to provide improved protection for people who ‘buy’ into a retirement village. If you intend to ‘purchase’ you must get independent legal advice before signing your occupation right agreement as required under The Act. Some Retirement Village type facilities are not required to register under The Act so different legal requirements apply. Please make sure you investigate fully.
In some villages there may be some Retirement Village units that have multiple uses e.g. a Serviced Apartment may also be used as a Residential Care Suite. The same unit may therefore show in several places on Eldernet.
