Testimonials
11 YEAR OLD ALEISHA BROWN'S ESSAY ABOUT HER STAY WITH HER GRANDPARENTS. Guess where I spent my holiday…! In a retirement village in Tauranga called Greenwood Park Lifestyle Village. Let me assure you that they do not sit in their rocking chairs watching the day go by. My nana and poppa hardly every stop for a cuppa or to chat about the weather. They are forever dragging me along to one of their sport events and other activities such as swimming, darts, table tennis, housie, tennis, croquet, golf, mini golf, bowls, snooker, petanque, craft days, knitting, wood tech, walking group, gym and aqua aerobics. Nana takes me to Housie. This where we sit in a room with the elderly listening for your numbers to be called out and put your counter on the number cards. Once you get a full house you yell “Housie”! Another game is petanque – poppa gets really competitive and gets frustrated when we beat him. Another sport is table tennis. Nana, Poppa, mum and dad get really competitive with each other, it’s like World War III. Ping pong balls instead of bullets, paddles instead of guns! Age is not a problem for nana and poppa, they are the current champs at tennis. Nana also goes to a knitting group where they knit hats, clothes and blankets for premature babies. Sometimes I get a little something out of it. Nana and poppa also visit the pool, it is heated so you can swim even in the winter. Sometimes I stay in the pool and spa so long that when I get out I look almost as wrinkly as poppa. My first ever hair salon experience was at the retirement village. (A nice change for mum). Nana and poppa have some friends there that I visit and sometimes if I turn on an angelic charm I’m always offered lollies and ice blocks. Remember, respect the elderly because you will end up just like them one day. |

NOTE: The Retirement Villages Act 2003 (The Act) is designed to provide improved protection for people who ‘buy’ into a retirement village. If you intend to ‘purchase’ you must get independent legal advice before signing your occupation right agreement as required under The Act. Some Retirement Village type facilities are not required to register under The Act so different legal requirements apply. Please make sure you investigate fully.
In some villages there may be some Retirement Village units that have multiple uses e.g. a Serviced Apartment may also be used as a Residential Care Suite. The same unit may therefore show in several places on Eldernet.
