Special Features
Day Care:
Parata Centre was built in 1994 specifically to provide Day Care for the communities within Eastern Southland. Day Care is provided Wednesday to Friday, 10am to 3.30pm. Interesting programmes of activities - arts, crafts, music, games, exercise, entertainments, outings and more - are offered. Transport to and from the Centre is available. A full midday meal, morning and afternoon teas are provided. Our aim is to provide stimulation, fun and companionship to the elderly members of our community and support for community caregivers.

Gardens:
The Parata Complex is surrounded by extensive lawns and gardens. The residents gain real enjoyment from the gardens, taking a stroll, sitting on the garden benches or just admiring the view from inside the Home.

Parata Centre is a specially built facility in which we provide activitiy programme and entertainment for day guests, residents and the community. A Centre Co-ordinator is employed to arrange programmes which will interest and entertain all who attend. Having fun is most important.The choice of activities is wide and varied, including:-

GAMES:

Bowls Table, Housie, Cards, Bocca, Board Games, Cards, Jigsaws, Wool crafts, Quizzes.

PHYSICAL EXERCISE:

Yoga, Exercise Equipment, Walks in the extensive gardens.

ART & CRAFTS:

Painting, Handcrafts, Spinning. Parata participates in (and at times hosts) a Wearable Arts Competition for Resthomes in the Southland region.

MUSIC:

Sing-a-longs plus visiting choirs and entertainers from the community. Equipment available to play a large collection of tapes, discs and records.

ENTERTAINMENT:

Parties to celebrate events and festivals. Fundraising events. Regular newspaper and book readings. Magazines provided. Library with collection of big print books. Television lounge with Sky TV. Also a television in the Centre - both have equipment to play the collection of dvds and videos available. Church and community events. WiFi for the use of Residents and Guests.

OUTINGS:

Weekly Outings in the Parata Bus and special longer trips. The Monthly Activity Programme includes outings to community events.

What's included in your fees and what's not In accordance with Parata policy, the fee charged to private paying residents is in line with the fee paid to Parata under the Residential Care Contract. The Services included in, or excluded from, the Fee are in accordance with the provisions of the Contract with the Health Department. This basis is applies to all residents. Information on fee structure available on request.
Staffing qualifications and details Parata maintain a high-staffing ratio. All staff receive on-going training through an In-Service Education Programme and Careerforce programmes managed by the Registered Nurse in liaison with the Manager. The staff training emphasises the need for all residents to be cared for in a respectful and dignified manner.
Details about meals We pride ourselves in offering a varied menu of a high standard. Our residents enjoy tasty meals prepared by our capable cooks supplemented by home baking. We cater for all special diets and are mindful of residents' preferences. Parata also operate a meals-on-wheels service within the community.
Associated Complexes The Parata complex incorporates 26 rooms certified for residential care (21 bed Residence, 5 Studio Units for intermediary care), Parata Centre for Day Care, Parata Retirement Village with 27 self-contained Flats, and a Meals on Wheels service. Parata is one of many Anglican Care facilities throughout New Zealand.
