End of Life/Palliative Care Yes We can and do provide palliative care when required with the support of Waipuna Hospice. It is our philosophy to provide this care for our residents rather than have them moved to unfamiliar and strange surroundings.

Diabetic Care Yes We can work in consultation with the Diabetic Clinic at the Tauranga Public Hopsital but our staff are trained to administer insulin and provide required diabetic care.

Single Rooms Yes Devonport Palms has 26 single rooms and four apartments.
Shared Rooms No We have no shared rooms other than apartment rooms suitable for couples.
Rooms suitable for a couple Yes Devonport Palms has four apartments ideal for couples. These could be used for either private or subsidised care (with payment of a supplement).
Ensuite Yes Most rooms have either a private or shared ensuite facility. Rooms which are serviced by a communal bathroom have no more than 3-4 users.
Alcohol Permitted Yes Residents may consume moderate amounts of alcohol unless consumption results in behaviour which infringes upon the rights of other residents. We provide alcohol for special occasions and Happy Hour (normally Friday).
Pets In Residence Yes We have "Jack" as part of our extended family - a Jack Russell/Shih Tzu cross. Please don't tell him he is a small dog! Like any Jack Russell he has attitude in abundance. He is playful and loving - a real asset.
Phone Access In Own Room Yes Most rooms have an existing telephone jack-point. There is also a resident cordless phone available. Toll calls will be charged back to the resident.

Lounges/seating areas Yes We have a large lounge area which opens on to a patio set in a pretty garden setting. For those seeking a quiet place to read or relax, there is an upstairs lounge with lovely views out over the inner harbour towards Maungatapu and Matapihi.

Palliative Care Contract No Whilst not holding a contract - we will provide palliative care for our existing residents in conjunction with support from other health care professionals in circumstances where it is considered we are able to provide best care.
Outings Yes We have regular outings as part of our diversional therapy programme. We also encourage family to regaularly call and take their family members on outings.
Whānau Room No Residents would use their own room to meet privately with whanau or a private lounge upstairs would be made available on request. We do not have a dedicated whanau room.

Residents Committee Yes We have regular Residents' meetings. Devonport Palms encourages resident input into menu choices - providing valued feed-back on resident likes and dislikes.
Family Committee No We strive to build and maintain an excellent relationship with family members. We have a philosophy that whilst cognizant we have the contractual responsibility of primary-carer - families are very much partners in this process.
Policy for management of challenging behaviour Yes We have policies and procedures as required which cover the management of challenging behaviour. We also liaise with healthcare professionals when assistance is required.
Confused Residents Yes There is always an element of confusion present to varying degrees with residents who might have dementia. This is accepted. Our primary concern must be the welfare and safety of each resident.
Rural Setting No Devonport Palms has the convenience of being close to all amentities but is set in lovely grounds which boasts no fewer than five large protected trees.
Smoking Permitted No Devonport Palms has a strict NO SMOKING policy within the building. Residents and visitors who wish to smoke may do so outside.

Shops 0.15 Km We are 150 metres from the start of Tauranga central shops and business district with its retail shops, movie theatres, cafes and restaurants.
Mall 0.06 Km Just across the road but we have our own mail box for dispatching mail which is cleared each day at 4pm.
Parks 0.40 Km Memorial Park is a short distance and a wonderful spot for a picnic.
Library 1.00 Km The library is 1 km away - we have regular visits to the library.
