Special Features
Otorohanga is a small town in a rural area and is the gateway to the world famous Waitomo Caves. Surrounded by farmland, both sheep, beef and dairy, the town began its journey to the present day when a Post Office was built in 1885, followed by the railway line being built in 1887, after which business premises started to appear. Beattie Home started off as a maternity home, with additions over the years. Many people enter the building, look around, and say "I had my babies here", or "I was born here". The maternity hospital closed 6 December 1986 and Beattie Home was officially opened as a retirement home in 1988. We have the Rimu Wing and Beech Wing, and from March 2016 we also have the brand new Kowhai Wing. Along with the Wilshier Centre, which has the activities area, lounge and Board room as well as separate kitchen. Residents families can book in to use the facilities of the Wilshier Centre, for family get togethers for birthdays or other family/social events. |
