Radius Heatherlea is located in the beautiful city of New Plymouth, just a 2-minute drive from the city centre. This central location offers convenience and accessibility for both residents and their families.

Heatherlea offers the best in rest home, hospital, dementia and respite care. So if you're care needs change, we can change alongside you.

Family is very important to us at Heatherlea. We encourage friends and family to become involved in all aspects of our residents' lives. Residents can bring their favourite possessions to personalise their rooms, maintaining familiar and comforting surroundings. They also have the freedom to come and go with friends and family as much as they like, or to welcome them for visits at any time.

Nutritious and Delicious Food
Our kitchen staff prepares fresh, nutritious meals daily, ensuring they are tasty and inviting. Residents enjoy three main meals, with two options for dinner and snacks throughout the day. The menu is approved by a dietician on a four-week cycle. Popular dishes include fish and chips on Fridays and lamb, pork, and beef roasts. Special dietary needs are accommodated with care.

Engaging Activities and Events
We offer a diverse activity program designed to promote self-esteem and personal fulfilment. Our activities stimulate cognitive function, nurture residents, and provide purposeful engagement, resulting in enriched lives full of fun, laughter, and smiles. Our residents also participate in community activities, including our Random Acts of Kindness club, where we share knitted items, baked goods, and vouchers, fostering rewarding experiences for all involved.

Staying Connected
Residents and families stay informed with our bi-monthly newsletter, which includes updates and upcoming events. We also offer free Wi-Fi to help residents connect with loved ones, access news, shop online, and stream entertainment. Additionally, for $35 a month, residents can opt for a phone package that includes a phone with oversized buttons, covering all mobile and toll calls. Residents are welcome to bring their existing phone numbers with them.

Oxygen Management Yes Radius Heatherlea has bottled oxygen for emergency use and when residents require oxygen during transportation. Staff are experience in the management of oxygen therapy.
Gastronomy/Nasogastric Management Yes Our staff have experience in care for gastric feed.We can access equipment and supplies to provide this care. Radius has policies and procedures to ensure staff practise and administer PEG feeding with in safe guidelines.

Stroke Rehabilitation Yes Radius Heatherlea, can provide stroke rehabilitative support. With the support of our on call physiotherapist. We have nursing experience available to provide rehabilitative care.
Tracheotomy Care Yes Radius Heatherlea, can provide nursing support and care to residents that have a tracheotomy.
Infection Control Yes Heatherlea has a specialist trained infection control co-ordinator who manages the risk of infections within the facility by through monitoring and assessment. We have a comprehensive outbreak management plan should it be required.
Surgical Followup Yes We are able to provide post discharge surgical care to our residents, with specialist wound management oversight. We provide transport and support if residents requiring follow up visits with TDHB or specialists.
Psychiatric Care Yes We work closely together with mental health service for the older person on providing the best possible care for our residents.

May Bring Own Furniture Yes We love you to personalise your private room, bring your own dresser, favourite chair, art work and those much loved photos. Your room is your sanctuary. We also provide furnishing for all rooms, so you can mix and match if you so wish.
Single Rooms Yes There are 19 en suite rooms that are categorised as "Swing Beds" this means they can be used as Hospital Level of care or Rest Home Level, these 19 rooms all have en suites.

Rooms suitable for a couple Yes Our en suite rooms are large enough to be shared by a couple if this is required. Also we have 2 rooms in the Fuschia Wing which could accommodate a couple if necessary.
Ensuite Yes Majority of rooms in rest home area have en suites, which consist of a toilet, shower and vanity. All rooms that don't have ensuite have their own vanity.
Alcohol Permitted Yes We have happy hour on a Friday afternoon, where we shout you a drink or two, with nibbles and music. We also provide a drink with Sunday dinner if so wished. Alcohol in rooms are welcome.
Pets In Residence Yes Heatherlea has a facility cat called gingernut, we also have 2 bird aviaries, one with ring necks and the other with a mixture of different species, they do produce chicks from time to time much to the delight of the residents. We also have 2 fish tanks.

At Heatherlea residents have convenience of being so central to town, this makes it easier for family and visitors also. Right in the heart of the facility there is a peaceful outside garden, especially for the pleasure of our residents in the secure unit. We have four lovely lounges throughout the facility, with modern décor and comfortable seating, with music or wide screen TV available for the pleasure of our residents and families.

Heatherlea has a full activities programme which includes the following, but to name a few of the activities, Bingo, Board games, Bowls, Cards, Canine friends, Cooking, Craft, Entertainers, Exercises, Flower arranging, Happy Hour, Holidays, Lotto, Newspaper reading, Quizzes, Shopping, Sing-a-longs, Stroke Group.

The residents and families alike love watching our birds in the two aviaries we have, and there is great excitement when they product chicks.

We welcome visitors, and the residents especially love baby's and little children, we have an a close relationship with the ABC group, and the Omata and Marfell Primary School, participating in return visits.

Staffing qualifications and details Our Kitchen staff are all trained by the Hospitality Service industry and have obtained certification. Our HCA staff all complete the ACE Basic, Dementia, and Advance training, for which we have a contract with Career Force.
Details about meals All our meals are cooked on sit. Our main meal is served at midday with a lighter meal served in the evenings. Morning, afternoon tea, and supper, consists of home cooking, and sandwiches for those that want them. We have a national 4 week rotational menu which is also seasonal, developed by a chef, and approved by a dietician, which is suitable for the elderly.
Associated Complexes Radius is a New Zealand owned and operated company that specialises in delivering the very best levels of Rest Home, Hospital and Dementia Care to our elderly population and our young disable who require special care.
