Atawhai is conveniently located on Gloucester Street, making it easy for friends and family to visit or take you out and about to local shops and cafes. There are plenty of amenities close by, including golf courses, garden centres, cafes and a large community sports arena which hosts a variety of sporting and social functions. There’s also a heated swimming pool at the nearby school. With a bus stop right outside, the beautiful art deco city of Napier is just a short trip away, as are Hastings and Havelock North.
Your room is your own private space, so you can decorate it with your favourite pictures and ornaments. Standard rooms are large enough for a single bed, a chair and a wardrobe or chest of drawers. The cost of a standard room is included in the Care Services Fee set by the DHB. Premium rooms have additional features such as more space, an ensuite bathroom or outdoor access, but you’ll need to pay an extra amount per day to cover the cost of these premium features.
Care Suites provide both Rest Home and Hospital level care, which means you can relax knowing you won’t have the upheaval of moving again if your needs increase. All Care Suites have a heat pump and full ensuite, as well as a kitchenette with a fridge and a kettle – perfect for making a cuppa when friends and family come to visit. You own the right to occupy your Care Suite, so you can personalise it with your favourite furniture and treasured pieces.
Tender Sunday roasts, hot fish and chips and scrummy homemade puddings…there’s a reason why the dining room is full before dinner! All of the above are regular features on our menu, which is packed with tasty family favourites you’d make at home. You’ll be sure to want second helpings! Oceania has Australasia's first and only certified Specialist in Gerontological Nutrition as we are committed to ensuring our residents are getting the best possible nutrition from each and every meal.
Hop in our van for a jaunt, you’ll never know where it will take you next. A scenic drive through the countryside, shopping trips or picnics in the park, there’s an exciting new destination each week. Or if it’s music you’re into, enjoy some me-time listening to your own personalised playlist with our award-winning I Love Music programme.
Oceania is a leading provider of premium healthcare services in New Zealand. With over 40 locations across the country, we’ve been part of local communities for over 50 years. We’re recognised as industry leaders in care, winning awards for innovation, food, staff training and community engagement.

Testimonials
“I can’t speak highly enough of Atawhai, the excellent care brought me back to where I should have been health wise. There are plenty of activities to choose from, good meals and all staff are wonderful.” Atawhai resident “I think Atawhai is wonderful. We are very well looked after and if you ever need anything, all you have to do is ask. If I were anywhere else, I wouldn’t be able to do all the things I want to do.” Atawhai resident “Atawhai has a homely feel to it and staff really care for the residents. The activities team always encourages residents to go on outings and join in activities. I enjoy coming along to outings with my husband and helping out when I can.” Dot McLeod, resident’s wife “I would recommend Atawhai to anyone. My wife receives great care and the way staff talk to residents make them feel at home. The amount of activities that go on is good therapy as well.” David Kellett, resident’s husband |
