To provide support, advocacy, information and education to all people in the Taranaki region to live well with dementia.
Our team is committed to empowering those impacted by all dementia (all types) and fostering a dementia friendly Taranaki.

Service Description
Support and Advice for people affected by dementia in Taranaki.
Services include:
Community Advisors - offering support and navigation service. Our Community Advisors are able to visit you in your own home or wherever suits. They are here to support you and connect you to other community supports to assist you on your dementia journey.
Community Educator - providing education sessions and workshops to people living with dementia, care partners, families and whānau and the general public/local community.
Carer Support Groups - for care partners, family and whānau of those living with dementia.
Alz cafes - social cafe groups around the region that both people living with dementia and care partners can attend for support and social connection.
Day Respite Programmes - for people living with dementia, fully funded (funding approvals through NASC service). We run 4 days a week in New Plymouth and 2 days in Hawera, providing cognitively stimulating activities, games, crafts, music and entertainment for people with mild-moderate dementia who are living in the community.
Young-onset Social group - meeting regularly for support & social connection, this group is for people living with dementia who have been diagnosed under the age of 65.
Dementia Friendly Book Group - runs fortnightly at Puke Ariki library, all welcome.
Wandersearch Programme - We also facilitate the Wandersearch/Wandatrak Safer Walking Service in Taranaki. If you are concerned your loved one may be at risk of getting lost when out and about, we can provide Wandatrak beacons - small devices that are worn by the person and emit a unique radio signal that can be tracked by the Police & Land, Search and Rescue in the event your loved one does not return home. There is a small annual cost for this service.

Alzheimers Taranaki is a not-for-profit registered charity working to make life better for all people affected by dementia in Taranaki.
We aim to create a dementia friendly Taranaki by increasing knowledge and awareness in our community.
Our team is well trained, caring and knowledgeable about the many challenges arising from a diagnosis of dementia and work to support our clients along the whole dementia journey, providing a range of practical and emotional supports in a way that is culturally safe.

We also have a small team situated in Hawera.
Our Hawera Day Respite Programme runs Tuesdays and Fridays from 28 Campbell St, Hawera.
There is also a Community Advisor covering Hawera, Stratford and South Taranaki who works Monday-Friday 9am-4pm

Free Yes We endeavour to offer the majority of our services for free or at a very minimal cost. We do however invite all users of our services to become members at a cost of $30 per household per year.

A mobile service No But our Community Advisors can meet with you in your own home.
Easy access Yes Our main New Plymouth building is designed to be dementia and disability friendly - all on one level, suitable for wheelchairs and walkers. Our Hawera building is accessible via a ramp.
