Testimonials
"The care to my husband, John, was simply outstanding. John loved going to their place and felt so welcome, and because he was happy under their care, it meant that I could relax and spend time for myself." - Joan, the wife of a HomeShare member. “All the volunteers are nice, we have a lot of fun. The coordinator of Tōtara is fun and I enjoy talking to all the people.” - Nancy, a Tōtara Club member. |

Service Description
Enliven is a Presbyterian Support service for kaumātua/older people. At Enliven we recognise that getting older can have its challenges. Enliven Positive Ageing services ensure that all older New Zealanders have access to community-based support, be it someone to talk to, activities to join in with or help that will ensure a safe, healthy independence at home. At Enliven, we believe in helping people thrive, not just survive, with personalised programmes designed to help them build strength and resilience and to achieve their goals, based on what is important to them. TŌTARA CLUB: Enliven Tōtara Club provides day activity programmes for older people who have many and varied interests but have become socially isolated. Tōtara Clubs provide a place to meet together, share a meal, outings, entertainment and a range of activities. Experienced, caring staff are assisted by enthusiastic volunteers. HARAKEKE CLUB: Day activity programmes for older people who may be socially isolated or have memory loss and cognitive impairment (dementia). They allow carers day respite to pursue their own interests or activities or just have a rest. Activities include singing, cards, exercises, games, indoor games, music and playing pool. COUNSELLING & SOCIAL WORK: Enliven counsellors, therapists, nurses and social workers are ready to listen, to advocate for, provide counselling and support older people/kaumātua. HOMESHARE: Bringing older people with shared interests together in the comfort of a private home or suitable community facility. It is an opportunity to enjoy a home-cooked meal with others, the chance to make new friends and renew old acquaintances in a very small group setting. EAST CHRISTCHURCH KAUMĀTUA/OLDER PEOPLE SERVICE: We recognise there is a need for advocacy, whānau/family support, counselling and psychology specifically in the eastern suburbs of Christchurch. Providing help and support for our valued kaumātua/older people will help them thrive in their community. ELDER CARE CANTERBURY: Elder Care Canterbury is a collective of people who have an interest in improving health services for older people in Canterbury. KAIĀWHINA: Our Kaiāwhina help improve access to social services for older Māori by providing culturally appropriate support. HEALTH SERVICE NAVIGATION: Partnership community workers will help you to identify and access health care services and entitlements you may need in your community. VOLUNTEER SUPPORT: Supervised, local volunteers supporting older and less mobile members of the community. Our Volunteer Support programme provides help for older people around home, as companions, or simply as a regular ride to the supermarket. FALLS PREVENTION: Stay safe at home with Enliven's home assessment and exercise-based falls prevention programme. |
