Special Features
Barry Pohio is the owner and he also owns Armourdene Rest Home, just 1 Km away. He has active involvement in the home and brings with him many years of business experience and, more recently, working with older people. Through Armourdene Barry has a good understanding of the support services that are available in the community and in residential care. In offering care at Alphacare Riverview Barry believes that the residents have a right to good quality care that not only meets their needs but their desires too and that staff should be happy and well paid. He believes this generation deserve all the care they can get, and more.
Since his arrival Barry and his team have worked hard with the staff to achieve certification. Renovations of the interior, the exterior and gardens have been undertaken and the home looks warm and inviting. Staffing levels have been increased, as have the hours of the Activities Co-ordinator. More variety has also been bought into the menu. A registered nurse is on duty or on call all day, every day, including weekends. We share activities and outings with our Armourdene residents from time to time.
Whilst Alphacare Riverview is located in a quiet suburban street overlooking the Waikato River it is also very close to the central business area and city centre so we get the best of both worlds. The home has several small wings of resident’s rooms that radiate from the central living area. There are wide views across the river from a large, sunny deck that opens from the lounge. A number of the rooms also have similar lovely views and doors opening onto the deck. A deck at the front of the building captures the morning sun.
Barry and the staff welcome visitors. You are welcome to come and see our home in operation and to perhaps come for a meal or join in our activity programme. |

Interests And Activities
|
Our activities co-ordinator has a very 'bubbly' happy, outgoing manner. She also has wonderful skills of listening attentively, seeing a need when it emerges, responding in a sensitive manner and giving time to those who need it.
Our activity programme, whilst set to some extent (at residents request) has considerable input by the residents during their monthly meetings. It is residents choice if they are involved in the structured progamme or whether they wish to do things individually. Our Activites staff give all resients time to ensure that letter gets written or a quiet chat time is provided, it is up to the resident to do as they wish.
Birthdays of our residents are important and special therefore we celebrate their birthdays individaully on the actual day with a special afternoon tea, a birthday cake and gift.
Bingo and Board Games are regular and one resident entertains regularly as our Pianist.
Entertainers are brought in and Happy Hour is every Friday. We share a Minibus with Armourdene. This also helps for Shopping trips., Activity programme
