Visitors with limitations - please call us first
We provide quality Hospital, Rest Home, Respite, Convalescent and Palliative Levels of Care. We utilise the InterRai Assessment Tool, endorsed by the Ministry of Health, to assess our residents and prepare a comprehensive and personalised Long Term Care Plan to ensure the resident receives the most appropriate standard of care to meet their assessed needs.

This is done in consultation with the family by a registered nurse and filed online through an integrated computing system. This means the plan can be accessed and reviewed readily through different assessment agencies when needed.

The assessments and Care Planning is done within our small privately owned rest home, which has a very homely, friendly and welcoming ambiance, in a country setting to meet the individualised needs of your loved ones.

We have friendly, kind and caring staff so your loved ones feel right at home.

We offer this quality care in a country setting, which is noted to be very beneficial to the resident's health. We have home cooked meals, and home baked cakes, scones, muffins, slices, the aroma of which greets you as you enter the door!

Our residents have a fortnightly van ride to feed the ducks at the lake, drive around the countryside, or just to have an ice cream on a warm summer's day.

Our Activities Co-ordinator works from 9.45am - 2pm weekdays and offers exercises, painting, some craft work, bingo, jigsaws, walks in the garden, weekly music, etc. We have a Interdenominational Church service fortnightly on a Tuesday and communion for those interested. We are happy to organize a service / visit from a minister of any denomination if needed.

We provide a range of services which include Long Term Hospital / Rest Home, Short Term Respite / Convalescent Care, Palliative and Day Care, for both the elderly and under 65.

Recently Brylyn was awarded with a 3 year certification from the Waikato District Health Board, to continue providing Residential Care. We are happy to have achieved the 3 year contract and it reflects our commitment to continue providing a quality and personalizsed standard of care to the community.

We are happy to answer your questions on any queries you may have regarding the full-time or respite placement of your loved ones in our warm and friendly home. If you are needing time for yourself from caring for a loved one, you can enquire with the Disability Support Link for help for respite care Carer Support, or if you are recuperating after an illness or operation, and need time to recover, ring and book yourself at Brylyn Residential Care.

TITLE : Kindness and compassion
The Positives : Staff were very gentle and kind. Cheery and pleasant. The home is very clean and doesn't have that smell often associated with elderly persons rest homes. Its more like a family home than an institution. When my father passed away they advised the other residents and celebrated his life with a beautiful photo, candle and fresh flowers- the compassion and empathy of the staff was wonderful. Dad was very happy in Brylyn, he enjoyed the food which was delicious and the interaction with everyone

The Negatives :

Suggestions or General Comment : When our time comes we would be more than happy to stay at Brylyn. Beautiful setting and the Studio rooms are like home.

Activities Co-ordinator 25 Yes Our activities co-ordinator works from 9.45am to 2pm every week day. There is a varied programme including a fortnightly bus trip to the lake for duck feeding, drive out in the country, or just to enjoy an ice cream in summer!
Hairdresser 3-4hrs Yes We have our long-term hairdresser. Emmy available every fortnight on a Monday for several hours to make our ladies and gentlemen look gorgeous. Emmy's rates are quite reasonable.
Podiatrist Yes A Podiatrist visits every six weeks or as needed to attend to foot problems.
Dietitian Yes A Dietician helps set up the winter and summer menu, and is accessible for residents requiring a Dietician's input for medical reasons.
Accredited Visitors Negotiable Brylyn Residential Care is happy to organise accredited visitors for clients needing this service.
Kaumatua Yes We are happy to organize a Kaumatua visit as needed.
Chaplain/Spiritual Advisor Yes A Vicar visits Brylyn Residential Care regularly, and Communion is offered to residents at the facility as needed. We are happy to organise a visit from any denomination minister / church if needed.
Other Personnel Yes We have a gardener and handyman to maintain the gardens and repairs around the facility. Please speak to the RN on duty for any help if needed.

Diabetic Care Yes We manage our Diabetic residents in the facility as per the Medical Practitioner's Medical Care Plan, monitor blood sugars regularly, liaise with the GP as needed to titre insulin doses. Our cooks cater to the Diabetic Diets as needed.

Stomal Therapy Yes We are happy to make a referral for any clients who come into care with this.
Infection Control Yes All staff are expected to adhere to the facility's Infection Control Policy, which is aligned to WHO / M.O.H policies on Infection Control. Staff have access to P.P.E's and are expected to utilise these when required, whilst minimising wastage.

Policy for management of challenging behaviour Yes Inhouse policy on Challenging Behaviour to be followed. Any behaviour not able to be managed at the facility, and a direct threat to other residents/ staff will be referred to the CRISIS TEAM.

We are a rest home in a semi rural environment which has a family like astmosphere. We have a chef who caters to individual needs and likes on a daily basis.

We maintain our resthome like a well lived in large home of an extra large family of residents and staff who like to laugh and joke, and create a lively environment in the home.

We minimse the institutional environment of resthomes and hospitals.

What's included in your fees and what's not Our daily contract rate with the Ministry of Health is $184.05 this rate is set by the Ministry of Health and is reviewed each year in July; our Studio rooms are $224.05 per night and double rooms are $197.05 per night.
